IETF 73 RMT WG Minutes Monday, 17 November 2008 ======================== 1) Agenda Bashing The agenda was accepted without comment. 2) WG Progress The WG Chairs presented the following documents' status and there was discussion on each: a) The publication approval of "draft-ietf-rmt-bb-norm-revised" as RFC 5401 was announced pending full author concurrence was announced. All authors have concurred except Mark Handley who had not yet responded. b) The "draft-ietf-rmt-bb-fec-rs" is approved but awaits the FEC Basic Schemes document due to dependency. c) A new version of "draft-ietf-rmt-bb-fec-basic-schemes-revised" was posted that should address the final IESG concerns. d) A new version of "draft-ietf-rmt-pi-norm-revised-07" was posted that is ready for AD/IESG review. e) The "draft-ietf-rmt-bb-lct-revised-07" is ready for publication writeup. f) Both "draft-ietf-rmt-pi-alc-revised-06" and "draft-ietf-rmt-flute- revised-06" and are ready for working group last call. g) The following documents were updated and were discussed in separate presentations at this meeting: - "draft-ietf-rmt-simple-auth-for-alc-norm-00" - "draft-ietf-rmt-sec-discussion-03" - "draft-roca-rmt-newfcast-03" 3) FLUTE/ALC/LCT "EXT_FTI" Issue. Toni Palia had raised an issue questioning the consistency of the specification of the EXT_FTI header extension for the FLUTE/ALC/LCT documents. Toni was not present but Mark Watson commented that, although the specification has been moved and is split among multiple documents as compared to earlier versions of the specification, the format is compatible with what was earlier specified. 4) RMT Security Issues Document Brian Adamson presented a short summary of the updates to the "draft-ietf-rmt-sec-discussion-03". This document may also be ready for working group last call, ready to fulfill its role as an informational reference for RMT Protocol Instantiation documents. 5) "TESLA for ALC/NORM" Vincent Roca provided a summary of the updated document, "draft-ietf-msec-tesla-for-alc-norm-06". Although this is an MSEC WG document, there is, of course, considerable interest in the RMT WG regarding it. The document had some comments and is close to ready for publication submission. 6) "Simple Authentication for ALC/NORM" Vincent Roca provided a summary of the updated document, "draft-ietf-rmt-simple-auth-for-alc-norm-00". This was formerly a personal draft, but now has been adopted as an RMT WG document per prior RMT discussion. One issue that was raised was concerning the description of use of Eliptical Curve Cryptography (ECC) which has some IPR claims associated with it. Brian Adamson volunteered to have the NRL team that developed an experimental "Secure NORM" solution that used ECC to review the implication of this. 7) "FCAST Discussion" Vincent Roca provided a summary of the updated document, "draft-roca-rmt-newfcast-03". The principal questions were if there was sufficient interest to make this a working group document. Gorry Fairhurst cited that he saw value in the document as an alternative to the FLUTE specification. Gorry had also raised the question of specifying a checksum for the Compound Object Header and/or object body (content). The merits of header-only versus header+body. Gorry suggested that a single approach be specified. There was consensus that a checksum would be a useful addition to the header. The question of accepting or rejecting this as a working group item was tabled pending more input from the mailing list and interested (or opposed) parties. ACTION ITEMS: The working group chairs will post working group last call requests for the ALC, FLUTE, and RMT Security Discussion documents.
