Minutes of the SIPPING WG Session at IETF 70 ============================================ Minutes edited by Gonzalo Camarillo Based on notes by Brian Rosen and Bruce Lowekamp Meeting chaired by Gonzalo Camarillo and Mary Barnes Slides presented included in the proceedings Tuesday, December 4th, 0900-1130 -------------------------------- Topic: Agenda Bash Discussions led by: Chairs The chais presented the status of the WG. There were discussions on whether we need yet another way to send DTMF tones: basic DTMF. No conclusion was reached. Topic: Overload Design Team Discussion led by: Jonathan Rosenberg Relevant documents: draft-ietf-sipping-overload-reqs-01.txt Jonathan presented the status of the design team and the simulation results they have obtained so far. Some algorithms take longer than others, but all of the end up collapsing. The stateless vs. stateful terminology used by the designed team will have to be defined (clarified) somewhere. Lars Eggert, transport area director, suggested that the design team gets in touch with people with experience in congestion control. The design team members claimed that they have asked transport people but got no response. It was pointed out that the fact that the design team is using a single topology and only UDP may bias the results. Topic: UA Profile Datasets Discussion led by: Sam Ganesan Relevant documents: draft-petrie-sipping-profile-datasets-05.txt There was weak consensus in the room to make this draft a working group item. Topic: Updates to Asserted Identity Discussion led by: John Elwell Relevant documents: draft-elwell-sipping-update-pai-02.txt There was weak consensus in the room to make this draft a working group item. Topic: Support for Application Profile Types Discussion led by: Salvatore Loreto Relevant documents: draft-channabasappa-sipping-app-profile-type-01.txt It was suggested that this solution could be simplified. At this point, it seems over engineered. Topic: Scaling Requirements for Presence Discussion led by: Avshalom Houri Relevant documents: draft-houri-sipping-presence-scaling-requirements-01.txt There was strong consensus to adopt this document as a working group item. Topic: SIP URI Service Discovery Using DNS-SD Discussion led by: Henning Schulzrinne Relevant documents: draft-lee-sip-dns-sd-uri-02.txt There was strong support in the room for this work. The chairs will contact the DNS people to get their opinion before moving this forward. Topic: SPAM Score Discussion led by: Dan Wing Relevant documents: draft-wing-sipping-spam-score-00.txt The draft proposes to standarize the mechanism to transport scores; not the algorithm or algorithms to generate them. Some people supported this work. Others opposed it on the grounds that it is not clear that such a mechanism would help SPIT, since it is not clear yet how SPIT will look like. It was also proposed to run this as an experiment (i.e., an experimental RFC). It was also proposed to run a BOF to better understand the problem area. It was also proposed to start a study group (which would be closer to a WG than a design team). There was weak consensus in the room that working on spam scoring would be useful. Topic: SRTP Keys Discussion led by: Dan Wing Relevant documents: draft-wing-sipping-srtp-key-02.txt There was strong consensus in the room to work on this. The chairs will need to consult with the security ADs before moving this forward. The meeting ended.
