MBONED - Thu 07/31/08 - IETF Dublin Scribe: Dino Farinacci ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Start of meeting o draft-ietf-mboned-ipv4-uni-based-mcast-05 submitted to IESG. o draft-ietf-mboned-macnt-req-08 and draft-ietf-mboned-rfc3171bis-03 under AD evaluation. Ron: rfc 3171bis not in queue -> agenda updated ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presentation of draft-ietf-mboned-3171bis by Michell Cotton. o Submitted version -03. o Ad-hoc block taken from eGLOP space, available now. o -04 is final edit and use it for WG last call. o Multicast registries will be converted to XML as source o IPv4 application form to be updated. IPv6 application form to be added. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presentation of draft-ietf-mboned-multiaaa-framework-07.txt by Hiroaki Satou o -07 reflects RADEXT and DIME comments. o Add Admission Control for multicasting. o Small percentage has read the draft (but increased from the last IETF). o 6 people want to make this WG last call, no one opposed. -> start WGLC o Asked where to start discussion on solution Ron: Ask chairs who may be related with this issue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AMT deployment presentation by Greg Shepherd o Refreshed draft-ietf-mboned-auto-multicast-09 due to timeout. o Time for last call o Cisco has a relay/gateway implementation. o UT Dallas (http://cs.utdallas.edu/amt/) as Relay Linux/BSD. o UT Dallas has VLC-AMT Windows, web embedded on quicktime, and windows standalone. o US content owner in-house relay implementation. o PAIX-PA, NETNOD, LINX all doing AMT trial deployments. o ISC has a public relay at PAIX/LINX/EQX/TOPIX (http://multicast.isc.org). o Content, call for participation. You need multicast transit to get content injected. o On receiver side, get public domain host based gateway implementation. o Use mailing list at multicasttech.com. Question about if active and maintained. It is up and should be used. Marshall: Nov 2007 was last call. Marshall moving to take AMT draft to IESG. UDP checksum issue is being resolved. Toerless last IETF comment about v4 headers with v6 payload *is* covered in spec. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presentation of draft-ietf-mboned-lightweight-igmpv3-mldv3-03 by Hitoshi Aseada o Motivations: remove rarely used EXCLUDE (S,G) o There are host, router, and switch implementations completed. Huawei switch used. o Router-side in XORP-1.5 o Host side implementation is http://www.sfc.wide.ad.jp/~asaeda/LW-IGMPv3. o There are 300 test cases created for both IPv4 and IPv6. o IGMPv3 snooping test performed. o Also a performance analysis paper. o Draft is stable. o Wants to initiate WG last call for experimental RFC. o Should it be BCP or Experimental. Brian: have to spin up Magma if the draft is more than experimental. Bill: snooping switches can do summarization with a single exclude. Ron: experimental RFCs have a bad reputation. Maybe after the experiment, you can publish a BCP. Have a success criteria. Hitoshi: We will continue this discussion on the list. -> WGLC to be started after deciding the category. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presentation of draft-ietf-mboned-mtrace-v2-01 by Hitoshi Aseada o mtrace v2 works on UDP. o Support for both IPv4 and IPv6. o Supported for IGMP/MLD and AMT relay/gateway. Bill: recommendation to remove 224.0.1.32 for responses. o Future work, support TLV response data for flexibility. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presentation of draft-ietf-mboned-session-announcement-req-00 by Hitoshi Aseada o Objective: to clarify requirements for SAP. No protocold definition in this draft. o 2000 multicast sessions on the Internet. o Announcement interval is set between 800 and 1600 seconds. o Problem, longer latency with more announcements. Rajiv: If backoff of announcments are too long, then there is no multicast state in the network. Marshall: IPv6 should be considered for this. Don't need scoping when using SSM. o 8 people voted for making it a WG document, no one opposed. -> Check the adoption as a WG document on the list ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presentation of draft-morin-mboned-igmpmld-error-feedback-01 by Thomas Morin o Querier provides feedback to a reporter why an IGMP/MLD report is not accepted. o Add a feedback message, a new IGMP/ICMPv6 message type. Content has error code and invoking report packet. o Toerless proposed to also send feedback message in UDP format. Thomas: wants this to be an MBONED WG document. o 2 people think it should be a WG docuemnt. o 2 people thought it should not. o Take to the list. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presentation of "draft-rosen" clarifications by Yakov Rehkter o draft-rosen drafts have diverged and not covered by L3VPN WG. o So there are multi-vendor interoperability problems. o Fundamental architecture differences between the drafts. Unicast one way, multicast another way. o There are control plane issues. There are more overlay adjacencies with PIM then there would be if BGP was used to support building multicast trees. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presentation of draft-asati-pim-multicast-routing-blackhole-avoid-00 by Rajiv Asati o Proposes how to have fast convergence when an interface flaps. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Presentation of draft-farinacci-lisp-multicast-00 o Dino did not present since we ran out of time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- end of the meeting
